Report on Social Security for Unorganized Workers:Summary and Recommendations
The Government of India set up the National Commission on Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector (NCEUS) on 20 September, 2005 under the Chairmanship of Professor Arjun Sengupta. The terms of reference of the Commission included reviewing the “social security system available to labour in the informal sector” and making “recommendations for expanding their coverage”. In pursuance of these terms of reference, the Commission has prepared a report titled Social Security for Unorganized Workers. The report, prepared under the chairmanship of Professor K.P. Kannan, was submitted to the Government of India on 16 May, 2006. The following is the summary of the Report and its recommendations.
