Dr. Sarthi Acharya is a Professor (Delhi Chair) at the Institute for Human Development, New Delhi. He is an Economist with four decades of experience in formulating public economic policies, providing academic/professional consultancy, undertaking and managing research programmes, organising seminars and training programmes, and advising Governments in India and abroad. He has conducted development research/collaborative research with national and overseas partners, including with the World Bank, ADB, United Nations agencies, the Population Council, and state governments in India, among others. He was earlier professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai, director at IDS Jaipur, and has also been a staff member of the UNDP, ILO and Unicef. He was the UNDP’s Chief Technical Advisor, associated with the Governments of Cambodia and Lao PDR in formulating their Five-year Plans. Through the ILO, he prepared the Employment Guarantee Outline for the Government of Indonesia. Earlier, he had been associated with universities in the US and Europe as visiting scholar. He has authored over 50 research papers and four books.
