Rang De Basanti: Bollywood's Construct of India's Malaise

The article critically engages with the recent Hindi blockbuster—Rang De Basanti and argues that the film wrongfully portrays the problems affecting Indian society as corruption, population explosion, unemployment and communalism. It further contends that the film despite its brilliant direction and star cast has failed to interpret and communicate to the larger world the real malaise afflicting the Indian polity and society—poverty, inequity and social oppression.
