About Us

The Institute for Human Development (IHD) established in 1996 under the aegis of the Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE), is an Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) recognized Institute. It is a non-profit autonomous institution which undertakes research in the areas of growth and employment, livelihood, health and nutrition, education and other aspects of human development. The Institute aims to contribute towards building a society that fosters and values an inclusive social, economic and political system that is free from poverty and deprivations.

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

“As the Institute for Human Development (IHD) marked its 25th anniversary in 2023, this milestone year highlighted both our achievements and our aspirations for the future. The Silver Jubilee celebrations, held from January 2023 to March 2024, included three major international conferences and a series of public lectures, attracting distinguished scholars from across the globe. These events fostered enriching discussions on key global issues such as the future of work, urban development, and advancing human development, all with a focus on the Global South.

In 2023-24, IHD published its flagship “India Employment Report 2024,” which brought crucial insights into youth employment, education, and skill development. The Institute also completed 11 significant projects, while continuing work on 17 others. These include cutting-edge research in areas like socio-economic inequality, gender-responsive policies, and the contribution of India’s handicraft sector.   ReadMore
