Dr Sheila C. Vir, a senior Public Health Nutrition consultant and Founder Director of a professional organisation Public Health Nutrition and Development Centre, has over 35 years of experience. Dr Vir, while with UNICEF (India) and later as a senior public health nutrition consultant has provided consultancy services to central and the state governments, national institutes and a range of national /international organisations. These have focused on providing strategic and technical leadership for policy formulation and implementation of nutrition programmes in India. Dr Vir was also elected Secretary of the National Nutrition Society of India 2004-8. Dr Vir is a recipient of the Commonwealth Van den Bergh Award, Srikantia Memorial Lecture Award, and the Kamal Puri Sabharwal Oration Award. She has over 90 publications, including development, production and editing of two books on the subject of Public Health Nutrition in India and developing countries that are being widely used by teaching institutions and programme persons. Currently , Dr Vir is leading in undertaking a baseline research study on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) in Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh with a plan to develop and implement district plan of action in the next two years in collaboration with a locally based NGO.
