Ms. Ratna Sudarshan
Trustee and Former Director, Institute of Social Studies Trust (ISST)
Ratna M. Sudarshan is currently a Trustee, and former Director (2003-2011) of the Institute of Social Studies Trust, New Delhi. She has been a National Fellow at NIEPA (2013-15) and Principal Economist at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (1995-2003). She holds an MA in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, an MSc in Economics from the University of |Cambridge and has received a DSE Distinguished Alumni Award from the Delhi School of Economics in February 2017. She has been a consultant to the ILO, World Bank, Home Net South Asia and other national and international organisations. Advisory roles currently held include member of the Governing Body of Uttarakhand Environmental Education Centre, Almora; member, Research Advisory Group, Centre for Gender and Labour, V V Giri National Labour Institute; member, Academic Committee, Institute of Human Development. Her publications have mainly been on aspects of women’s work, the informal economy, and education; employment, education and social change; research, action and policy linkage; gender and evaluation. Most recent publications include ‘Recognizing Connectedness: the practice of feminist evaluation’ (co-edited with Rajib Nandi), 2021, Zubaan Books, Delhi, and a paper jointly written with Anjali Thomas titled ‘Gendered academic trajectories through research and publications: influences and implications’, 2024, in N.V. Varghese and Nidhi S. Sabharwal (eds) India Higher Education Report 2022: Women in Higher Education, Routledge London and New York.
