Prof. K. Seeta Prabhu, M.A Ph.D, is a leading exponent of the human development approach. She is a Visiting Professor at The Institute for Human Development, New Delhi and Senior Advisor (SDGs) at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Seeta is a member of the Editorial team for the Journal of Human Development, and a member of the Governing Board of the Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow and the Centre for Social and Economic Studies, Hyderabad. She was Co-Chair of T20 Task Force 3 on ‘LiFE, Resilience and Values for Well-Being’ of the G20 India Presidency.
Seeta was Head, Human Development Resource Centre and Senior Advisor, United Nations Development Programme, New Delhi (2000-2013) and Tata Chair Professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (August 2013 to August 2018), Programme Director of the Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellows Scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India (2015-2017). During 1979 to 2000, Seeta was a faculty member at the Department of Economics, University of Mumbai including as Professor of Development Economics.
Seeta has been a member of of the ICSSR Governing Council (2012 to 2017) and member of numerous government committees and consultant to various national and international development organizations.
Seeta’s books co-edited with Prof. S. Parasuraman (2021,2020), published by Orient Blackswan, Making Development Happen: Transformational Change in Rural India Volumes I and II, chronicle the developmental work undertaken in rural areas of India’s conflict affected districts by the Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellows. In 2019, she co-authored with Sandhya Iyer ‘Human Development in an Unequal World’, published by Oxford University Press. Her forthcoming book edited jointly with Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi and Dr. Sabyasachi Saha titled Wellbeing, Values and Lifestyles: Towards a New development Paradigm is being published by Springer in 2024. She has also published numerous articles in national and international journals.
