Overview:

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, commissioned the Institute for Human Development (IHD) to prepare the National Tribal Human Development Report. The report aims to document the human development levels and inequalities faced by the Scheduled Tribes (STs) in India and to formulate policies to bridge the existing development gaps.

Objectives: The research aims to document current levels of human development and inequalities among Scheduled Tribes (STs). It will formulate policies to address development gaps, drawing on national and international best practices and policies.

Key Areas of Focus:

  1. Livelihoods:
    • Assessment of employment patterns, income sources, and economic conditions.
    • Analysis of traditional and modern livelihood practices.
  2. Education:
    • Examination of literacy rates, school enrollment, dropout rates, and educational attainment.
    • Analysis of educational infrastructure and quality of education among STs.
  3. Health:
    • Study of health indicators, access to healthcare, and prevalence of diseases.
    • Evaluation of healthcare facilities and programs targeting STs.
  4. Gender Dimensions:
    • Analysis of gender disparities in education, health, and employment.
    • Study of issues specific to ST women and measures to empower them.
  5. Relative Position:
    • Comparison of the human development status of STs with other social groups in India.
    • Identification of disparities and potential areas for intervention.

  • First Exclusive Report: This is the first report exclusively focusing on the human development status and issues of the ST population in India.
  • Policy Formulation: The findings and recommendations will guide the formulation of policies aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of STs.
